About St Joseph's Chapel
The Chapel of St Joseph The Worker (Capilla San Jose) was founded in the late seventies. The purpose to provide a Mass in English each day for the increasing numbers of English speaking people making their home in the Costa Del Sol.
St Joseph's is not licenced nor permitted under our remit from the Spanish Diocese of Malaga to perform weddings, funerals or baptisms.
From humble beginnings and by the work of successive dedicated volunteers the the chapel has been build up from a small oratory and open ground to the building that it is today.
The Catholic Association of St Joseph the Worker was first mooted in late 1997 because according to records of that time the Voluntary Committee felt they were not in communion with the Spanish Church and felt vulnerable and the need to keep a low profile of the Chapel. The current statutes were approved by a General Assembly held in November 2004 and enacted in Spanish law in 2006.
We have the permission of the Bishop of Malaga to open for worship. His Lordship the Bishop has delegated the supervision of the facilities and the liturgy celebrated in the Chapel to the Parish Priest of Nuestra Senora Del Rosario with whom we work very closely.
All our funding is obtained from our weekly collections and generous individual donations without which St Joseph's Chapel would not exist.
Membership of St. Joseph's
Membership of St Joseph's costs only € 10 per Annum. Apart from participating formally in the life of the Chapel including attendance and participating in the decision making process membership fees provide an important source of income.
If you are not a member why not consider joining. Membership income and weekly collections are our only source of income to provide for an English spoken Mass each day on the Costa benefitting ex-pats and holiday makers alike.
